The Sunday Night Blues on Monday!

Happy Labor Day! For those of us who live for the weekend, there is nothing like an extra day of freedom to do whatever we want or need to do. By this evening most of us will be winding down and preparing for the week ahead. This week our Sunday night rituals were put on hold for one glorious day and we can now perform our routine refreshed and ready to face our workday with eagerness and excitement! Does this sound like you?No?

Unfortunately this viewpoint only represents a small portion of the workforce in the United States. On Sunday nights over half of the American workforce begin to feel a wave of anxiety and frustration as they begin to dread the next day of their lives.  These feelings have been coined “The Sunday Night Blues”.  I can recall a time in my life when I would feel the same way. A sense of sadness and dread would rush over me and ruin the last hours of free time that I should have been enjoying.  I can remember feeling trapped because I needed the money and sometimes I even cried. Other times it served therapeutic to call a friend who was just as miserable with their job as I was with mine and cry together until it turned to laughter. At first I thought it was funny that many of the people I knew admitted to having these same feelings but as time went on, something inside of me felt that this could not be normal.  At least not my normal!  I began to evaluate what it was that I was not looking forward to doing that next morning.  As I began to dissect each element of my current job it became easy to separate the things that were great, good, tolerable in low amounts, and absolutely dreadful to my soul. It is then that I was able to initiate a plan of action to make changes to the things that gave me the most anxiety.

If you made a list today of the great, good, tolerable, and unbearable what would it have on it? You might find that the fix is easier than you think. Life is too short to spend it on activities that do not align with our passions and gifts. If you could align these passions and gifts with your career you would discover a life of abundance where everyday could feel like the weekend!

What drives you to do more than the average person? What stretches you beyond your current situation because the desired outcome is your only focus and it is more important than any of the obstacles that stand in the way? What fulfills you the most?

What P.U.S.H.es you?
